More and more often, I disconnect to reconnect.

I leave my phone at home and go for an evening walk. While walking, I listen to music from a simple MP3 player.

I observe people around me, noticing new details in the environment I know so well. I sit on a bench by the river and meditate, while a myriad of lights on the other side paints reflections on the oily surface of slowly moving water.

I disconnect from the noise of social media microdosing us with dopamine and cortisol. From market updates, or a sudden thought about a technical challenge waiting at work. From news about Tik-Tok influencing political outcomes of an election, somewhere.

I disconnect from the buzz to reconnect with myself, with the surroundings, with the moment I am part of.

It has become a habit, both simple and helpful. It clears my mind, reminds me of who I am and helps me realize what is important now and what can wait. It also breeds new ideas, recharges my energy and brings back the feeling of being in control.

Take care of yourselves - disconnect to reconnect.
